What are the different types of multipoint door handles?
Multiple styles of UPVC door handles are available at Upvc Door Handles. The different types of multipoint door handles are tailored to accommodate different multipoint door lock operations and individual user preferences. These handle types comprise:
LEVER/LEVER DOOR HANDLES
Lever/Lever handles are comprised of two movable inline handles, making them the most common choice for UPVC doors, particularly in residential settings. Offering ease of operation, they boast a diverse array of styles ranging from traditional to contemporary designs. These handles can be secured either through a key-operated mechanism or a thumbturn cylinder located on the interior side of the door, providing homeowners with both convenience and security.
LEVER / MOVEABLE PAD (INLINE)
An inline moveable pad handle is a type of door handle specifically designed for use with multipoint door locks that feature a split spindle in the gearbox. Split spindles are divided into two parts that operate independently of each other, each part of the spindle is connected to one side of the door handle so the lever and pad are operated separately from each other. The split spindle means the pad handle can operate the lock without moving the lever on the other side.
LEVER / MOVEABLE PAD (OFFSET)
The offset moveable pad handle is designed to operate with multipoint door locks with a double spindle. Unlike lever lever handles where manipulation on one side directly affects the other, an offset moveable pad handle allows for independent movement. This means that the handle can be operated on one side without necessarily affecting the position or movement of the handle on the opposite side.
LEVER / FIXED PAD
A fixed pad is used for keywind locks or applications where access to the spindle from outside is not desired or needed.
HANDLE WITH SNIB
A snib can be activated to hold the latch back on the lock.
What measurements do I need when choosing a replacement UPVC Door Handle?
A – PZ (PZ Centres) – This measurement refers to the distance between the centre of the handle spindle to the centre of the top of the euro hole cut out on the door handle. This measurement is typically measured in millimetres, and it is important to ensure that the new handle has the same PZ measurement as your existing handle in order to ensure a proper fit.
B – Screw Centers – This measurement refers to the distance between the 2 screw holes on the door handle. This measurement is typically measured in millimetres.
C – Backplate – The backplate is the part of the handle that attaches to the door, and it is important to measure the length and width of your existing backplate in order to ensure that the new handle will fit properly and cover any mess left from the previous handle. This measurement is typically measured in millimetres, and it should be taken from the top of the backplate to the bottom.
Spindle Length – The spindle is the part of the handle that connects the handle to the latch mechanism, and it is important to measure the length of your existing spindle in order to ensure that the new handle will fit properly. This measurement is typically measured in millimetres, and it should be taken from the top of the spindle to the bottom.
Additional measurements – To verify that the door handles you have selected are exactly correct, it is advised you additionally take note of the following measurements:
Distance between the top screw hole and the centre of the spindle.
Distance between the bottom of the euro cut out and the bottom screw hole.
When choosing a replacement UPVC door handle, it is important to make sure that the new handle has the same PZ measurement, screw centres, same or greater backplate length measurement. This will ensure that the new handle will fit properly and function correctly. Additionally, it is also important to make sure that the new handle is compatible with your door’s lock mechanism, as many UPVC door handles are designed to work with specific lock types. Taking these measurements and considering compatibility is crucial to ensure that your new door handle will be a perfect fit and will work seamlessly with your door.
